About Jennifer Brizzi

Food Writing

Jennifer Brizzi is a writer and editor whose favorite topics are eating and cooking. Since 1997 she has written columns on food that include "Jenny’s Food Focus" for the Hudson River Sampler, "Good Food" for Taconic Press Weekend and since 2003 "Ravenous" for Ulster Publishing, which publishes The Woodstock Times and five other weeklies in Ulster and Dutchess Counties in New York's Hudson Valley. In scholarship competitions for the annual Greenbrier Symposium for Professional Food Writers, she received a Special Mention in 2007 and three in 2008. Brizzi has done cookbook recipe development and has worked for caterers and restaurants. She gives cooking demonstrations at fairs, festivals and farmers markets.

Other Work

Brizzi has traveled widely in the U.S. and abroad and writes about travel topics that include food-centered travel and traveling with children. For two years she was editor of the Hudson Valley Guide for Taconic Press, as well as the newspaper group's specialty publications that included regional tourism along with health, bridal and automotive supplements. She has also served as a co-editor for Global Writes, the online magazine of the International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association.

Brizzi worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for eleven years, mostly specializing in pediatrics, and has been a writer and editor on health topics. She is also the mother of two children adopted from Vietnam and Ethiopia and has published articles on parenting and adoption issues.

Brizzi is the daughter of novelist Donald Harington, and she has written three novels herself, with two more in progress. Click on fiction for summaries.
